Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) said on Friday that arrivals in September were the highest in the history of tourism in Cyprus. The number of visitors was 360,889, which means 14% higher on the same month of 2014.
It’s the second best results since 2001. The increase in visitors in September was mainly to strong growing of incoming British tourists. The number of visitors from Great Britain rose in September an annual 32%. The number the tourists from Russian, the second largest source of incoming tourism, dropped 19% and came to 463,789. The overall number of tourist arrivals in the period of January — September was 2,203,599, which is 7.4% higher compared to the same period of 2014.
Energy and Tourism Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis said that there was a fall on arrivals from Russian and Scandinavian countries and added that they will make efforts to improve the situation. For example, they have to find airlines to fill the gap from Russia for next year. After the demise of Transaero airlines there can be a risk on the Russian market for 2016.
