Cyprus villages: Kalopanayiotis

  • Cyprus villages

Kalopanayiotis history

Kalapanayotis village, was founded in the XI century and since then, it is known for its sulfuric water springs. The ancient doctors, knew a lot about their healing powers and used Kalopanayiotis as a spa resort, intended for the rulers of the kings family, that combined wellness and hunting. After the adoption of Christianity, in the IV century and the emergence of monks, the temple was converted into a monastery, near which a settlement was founded in the XI century.

The founder of the village – Panagiotis – lived with his brother in a nearby settlement. Later, the brothers had quarreled and Panagiotis moved to the neighboring area. He founded a village called “Panagiotis Settlement» (Casale Panayiotis). As the people thought that he was noble and good brother, they started to call the village on their own – Kazalopanayiotis, and later remade it in Kalo Panayiotis (Good Panayiotis).

Where is Kalopanayiotis located?

Kalopanayiotis village is located in the foothills of the Troodos mountains, in the district of Nicosia, at a distance of about 60 km from Limassol, on the left bank of Setrahos River.
